The original Pastéis de Belém recipe came from the monks of the Jerónimos Monastery and has been secret since 1837. Only a handful of master bakers know it. The queue is worth it.
The Jerónimos Monastery and the Tower of Belém are UNESCO World Heritage and masterpieces of the Manueline style: stone carved like lace, full of ropes, knots and armillary spheres.
Under the 25 de Abril bridge, LX Factory fills a textile mill from 1846. Today it's a creative block of restaurants, bookshops and studios. Perfect for the late afternoon.
