Service areas · Arroios and Intendente
Time Out named Arroios the coolest neighbourhood in the world. The spa? Right next door.
Arroios in four stories
In 2019, Time Out crowned Arroios the coolest neighbourhood on the planet. Locals already knew: the whole world fits into these streets.
Dozens of languages are spoken in Arroios: Nepalese grocers, Mozambican restaurants, Chinese bakeries and old-school Portuguese tascas. That whole world is what earned the coolest-neighbourhood title.
On Largo do Intendente shines the façade of Viúva Lamego, a ceramics house founded in 1849. It's one of Lisbon's most photographed tile fronts, and the azulejos are still painted by hand.
Intendente went from no-go zone to a square of terraces, concerts and street markets in just a few years. It's Lisbon's favourite story about second chances.
The Arroios Market, from 1942, is round and smells of half the continents: fresh fish, spices and fruit you didn't know how to name yet.
How it works
After tasting the whole world in three blocks, choose where to land:
We serve hotels and local accommodations across the whole neighbourhood - from Intendente to Alameda. It's our neighbourhood, so we arrive fast. The therapist brings a table, fresh sheets and premium oils.
About the hotel serviceThe spa is at Av. Defensores de Chaves 15, right on the border between Saldanha and Arroios - for many parts of the neighbourhood, it's a 10-15 minute walk. Metro: Saldanha or Picoas.
How to get therePicked for Arroios
In a neighbourhood of spices, the favourites have to live up to it:
The spa is minutes from the neighbourhood on foot: come as you are, float home after. The classic that never fails.

Yes, and it's our own turf: the spa sits on the neighbourhood's edge. Massage at your place or a visit to the spa, whichever you prefer.
We're practically neighbours. On foot it's about 20 minutes, by taxi five. By metro, green line to Alameda and red line one stop to Saldanha.
For weekdays, a few hours usually do. For Friday to Sunday evenings, one or two days is ideal. Arroios neighbours have the advantage of being able to walk over.
Big days ask for calm: the relaxing massage is perfect. If you walked all day, add a foot spa. And there's always a tea waiting before you head back into the buzz.
